HP (Hewlett Packard) is an American company. It provides products, technologies, software, solutions and services to consumers, small- and medium-sized businesses (SMBs) and large enterprises.
I believe that this is an important milestone in the history of computers. Think of all the products HP has made that have improved our lives. Without HP, I would´nt even have a computer to do this assignment on! -
NASA is Formed
NASA(National Aeronautics and Space Administration) is the agency of the United States government that is responsible for the nation's civilian space program and for aeronautics and aerospace research.
I believe that this milestone should be on the Computer History Timeline. NASA is the reason that we can use satellites in space for our computers! Without NASA, man would never have walked on the moon! -
IBM Creates the First Word Processor
The IBM MT/ST (Magnetic Tape/Selectric Typewriter) was the first word processor. It recorded text typed on magnetic tape, 25 kilobytes per cassette tape, and allowed editing and re-recording during playback. It was the first system marketed as a word processor.
I think that this is an important event to put on the timeline. It may not seem like a huge advancement to some, but I think it was essential for the creation of later word processors. We use word processors in our lives constantly! -
IBM Creates the First Floppy Disk
Floppy disks were a form of data storage and exchange from the mid-1970s well into the first decade of the 21st century. They were read in Floppy Disk Drives (FDD).
I think this should be included in the timeline. Floppy Disks were the cornerswtone of data storage and exchange! We may not use them now, but they are still important to the advancement of computers. -
Intel Introduces :The First Available Dynamic RAM Chip
RAM ( Random Access Memory ) is a form of computer data storage. It is volatile, so it will lose its memory if power is turned off.
I believe that this must be in the timeline! RAM may be one of/the most important milestone of all! RAM is used in all computers! -
Personal Computer: The Xerox Alto!
A personal computer is a computer that is for personal use. The Xerox Alto (1973) was the first personal computer; a landmark step in the development of personal computers.
I think this should be included in the timeline. This invention was the first step in personal computers! I believe it is a huge factor in the amount of personal computers today. -
Windows Creates History!
Microsoft Windows was introduced; eliminating the need for a user to have to type each command, like MS-DOS, by using a mouse to navigate through drop-down menus, tabs and icons.
I think this should definitely be included in this timeline! Can you imagine having to type every single command? Without Microsoft Windows, using a computer would be a HUGE pain in the neck! -
The World Wide Web is Launched!
The World Wide Web ( WWW ) is an information distribution system based on hypertext or hypermedia linked and accessible via Internet .
The World Wide Web should be in this timeline. We use the WWW every day! Imagine life without the WWW- its not as easy, huh? The WWW is a crucial development in computers! -
Google!
Google was founded by Sergey Brin and Larry Page on September 7, 1998. It is a widely used search engine.
I think this should be included in the timeline. Google has made finding information as easy as the press of a button! Navigating the internet would be a lot harder without Google!
