4 community members, unrelated and living in different sections of the community have tested positive for COVID-19. 1 had contact with a neighbor who recently returned from Italy. 1 attended a large music festival recently in another city within the state. 2 have not come into contact with any ill persons nor have they traveled. -
Nomadic Homeless Population: Carriers?
The large homeless population is migrating daily around the community to avoid public and police harassment. There is concern that this population could be carriers of the virus due to exposure to a 5th positively tested COVID-19 kitchen worker at the local community food kitchen this week. There is concern that the homeless population will soon present symptoms. -
Test Kit Contamination
Several test kits from the CDC have been shown to be contaminated which has slowed testing efforts. -
Medical Supply Chain Components
Several other medications such as penicillin are running low due to a lack of vital components caught in a supply chain breakdown from China. -
University Students
Several Asian students are returning to the local University from China after visiting families for the Chinese New Year. Several of the students have checked into the University Health Center with symptoms. There are no test kits at the University Health Center to verify their condition. -
First Childhood Case
A young girl, aged 3, has tested positive for COVID-19. This is the first case of a child contracting the virus in the United States. Does this indicate that the virus is mutating? -
Healthcare Worker Protection
It is discovered that the local hospital is running out of ventilator masks for their healthcare personnel. The hospital supply sources can only distribute 10% of what is needed for the local hospital due to excessive demand. -
Community Spread
Health officials report growing evidence of community spread although it is impossible to accurately determine numbers due to the lack of test kits from the CDC. -
Nursing Home Deaths
4 residents of a local nursing home have gone from an asymptomatic condition to death from COVID-19 in just a few hours. Autopsies are pending.
