Albany Plan of Union
In response to French attcks on the frontier Benjamin Franklin proposed a plan for uniting the colonies. Colonies rejected the plan because it gave too much power to an assembly made up of representatives from all 13 colonies. -

Stamp Act
Direct tax on legal documents, pamphlets, newspapers, dice, and playing cards. -
Stamp Act Congress
Nine colonies sent delegates to a meeting in New York called the Stamp Act Congress. First meeting organized by the colonies to protest King George's actions. -
Boston Tea Party
Colonists dressed as Indians, dumped 342 chests of British tea into Boston Harbor. -
Coercive Acts
Called the Intolerable Acts, one closed Boston Harbor, another withdrew the right of the Massachusetts colony to govern itself. -

Committees organized in the colonies to keep in touch with one another and rebelion started -
First Continental Congress
General meeting of all the colonies. Delegates from all the colonies except Georgia met. -
Lexington and Concord
British Redcoats clashed with colonial minutmen in Massachusetts. First battle of the Revolutionary War. -
Second Continental Congress
Delegates from all 13 colonies gathered in Philadelphia and assumed the powers of a central government. -
Resolution of Independence
Richard Henry Lee of Rirginia declared independence. Said "that these United Colonies are, and of right ought to be, free and independent states." -
