Connecticut
In 1636, the English arrived when a large group of Puritans from Massachusetts led by Thomas Hooker founded the Colony of Connecticut at the city of Hartford. They came looking for freedom of religion. In 1639 they adopted a constitution called the "Fundamental Orders." It is considered the first document to establish a democratic representative government. -
New Hampshire
New Hampshire is a state in the northeastern United States that was named after the English county of Hampshire. It was inhabited by Native Americans for thousands of years before European explorers arrived in the 1500s. The first permanent European settlement was established in 1623 by English fishermen and traders. -

In the 1730s, England founded the last of its colonies in North America. The project was the brain child of James Oglethorpe, a former army officer. After Oglethorpe left the army, he devoted himself to helping the poor and debt-ridden people of London, whom he suggested settling in America.
