    Christopher Columbus makes his first voyage and discovers America.
    Christopher Columbus made four trips across the Atlantic Ocean from his home Spain, in 1492, 1493, 1498 and 1502. He needed and wanted to find a direct route on boat west from Europe to Asia, but he never did. Instead, he found the Americas. He went on his boat "La Santa Maria."
  • The Roanoke Colony was Founded

    The Roanoke Island colony was the first English settlement in the New World. It was founded by an English explorer Sir Walter Raleigh in August 1585. Soon later it disappeared and was called "The Lost Colony."

    In 1607, 104 English men and boys arrived in North America to start a settlement. They picked Jamestown. The settlement became the first permanent English settlement in North America.
