Roanoke
Notes
Roanoke was a southern colony and was discovered by the British. It was called "The Lost Colony" because of John White leaving for a couple years and returning to a deserted settlement, The lost settlers were never found. -
Jamestown
Notes
Jamestown was established by the Virginia Company of London. After the first winter only 38 of the 150 settlers had survived. Tobacco growing became a big part of it's economy. Indentured servants were introduced and helped to grow the tobacco. Indentured servants were people who had a contract with someone else to work with them for a designated amount of time. -
House of Burgesses
Notes
The House of Burgesses was the first legislature made up of elected representatives. This was established at Jamestown. Only property owners could vote. -

Mayflower/Plymouth/Mayflower Compact

The Pilgrims formed the Plymouth Colony. They set sail on the Mayflower to Cape Cod and established the Mayflower Compact. The Mayflower Compact established the foundation for the colony's government -
New York
New York was a middle colony settled by the Dutch. This area was once called New Netherlands and New York City was Called New Amsterdam by the Dutch. Henry Hudson helped the Dutch explore this land. After 3 naval wars between the British and the Dutch the British won and renamed it after the Duke of York. -
Massachusetts Bay Colony
Notes
The Massachusetts Bay Colony was settled by about 1000 puritans. They governed by the beliefs of the puritan church. In 1643 20,000 English settles had joined the puritans of which made it the largest and most influential New England Colony. In 1691 it became a royal colony -
Maryland
Maryland was settled by Lord Baltimore. It is a southern colony. This colony was for persecuted Catholics to settle on. After Baltimore's death his son took over offering 100 acres per married couple which made the Catholic paradise into a Protestant dominated land. -
Rhode Island
Rhode Island is a New England Colony settled by Roger Williams. Roger Williams was banished from the Massachusetts Bay Colony for speaking out against religious disagreement and not agreeing with confiscating Native American land. Rhode Island has no religious persecution of Christians -
Connecticut
Notes
Connecticut is a New England colony settled by Thomas Hooker. Here the first written constitution in North America was written. It was called the Fundamental Orders of Connecticut. Citizenship here was based off of land ownership and not religion. -

Carolina is a southern colony settled by the supporters of King Charles II who granted them this land. Cash Crops were grown for the purpose of selling rather than being grown for personal use by farmer. After becoming a Royal Colony it was split into north and south -
Bacon's Rebellion
Notes
Bacon's Rebellion was the first Colonial rebellion against royal control. During this laws making Africans hereditary slaves were passes and white farmers and landholders were given more rights. Bacon had formed a militia of indentured servants slaves and poor farmers to go against Native American attacks. William Berkley fought against Bacon and his men who destroyed Jamestown. The rebellion ended with Bacon's death from dysentery and any co-conspirators were hung. -
Pennsylvania

Pennsylvania is a middle colony settled by William Penn.Established as a Holy experiment. Every male settler recieved 50 acres and the right to vote. Soon after Penn became Quaker so did his colony -
Salem Witch Trials

Young girls in Salem, Massachusetts had claimed to have been possesed by the devil and had known that some others knew witchcraft. The town was in massive panic after hearing this. In September of 1692 everyone began to calm done over these trials that were held -

Before Jonathan Edward entered the Enlightenment people were questioning religion and whether or not to follow it. Jonathan Edward begun his "fire and brimstone sermons" to scare people into believing again. Most people were absolutely terrified. This led to many more educational institutes for people like universities. -

The Albany Plan was an attempt at unifying the colonies. It failed due to the fact the individual colonial governements fear of losing power to parliament so everyone back out. This provided a template so to speak for future attempts at unification -
French-Indian War

The French-Indian War also known as the 7 years war was a result of the French expansion into the Ohio River valley and the storm of conflict with the British. In the end the Treaty of Paris was formed so the British took some of the French land and the French gave some land to Spain and taking some from Spain aswell -
