The US tried to invade Cuba but miserably failed. This also embarrassed the US. -

This is when Reagan visisted the Berlin Wall in Germany. It continues commitment to the people of West Berlin. -

This was the closest the US and the Soviets came to actually fighting. Nuclear warfare was included as well. -
Strategic Arms Limitation Talks
This was one of the first steps to slow the arms race. The two rounds of talks and agreements were SALT I and SALT II. -
Soviets Invade Afghanistan
The US and Soviets each backed a different side. This led to US Boycotting in 1980 Olympics. -
Reunited Germany
East and West Germany reunited because East Germany was no longer Communist. This was evidence that the War Saw Pact's days were numbered.
