  East Germany began a blockade on all water, road and rail passages from West Germany to protest a decision made by the Allied powers to unite their different occupation zones of Germany into a single economic unit. In response, the U.S. and Britain sent goods into East Germany by air travel.

  Korea split into North Korea and South Korea. The north was a communist government while the south was non-communist and backed by the U.S.. In June of 1950 North Korea launched an attack on South Korea to unite the two back.
