Berlin Blockade and Airlift
East Germany began a blockade on all water, road and rail passages from West Germany to protest a decision made by the Allied powers to unite their different occupation zones of Germany into a single economic unit. In response, the U.S. and Britain sent goods into East Germany by air travel. -
Korean War
Korea split into North Korea and South Korea. The north was a communist government while the south was non-communist and backed by the U.S.. In June of 1950 North Korea launched an attack on South Korea to unite the two back. -
The Space Race
The U.S, and Soviets had a rivalry on who could get to space the farthest first. Soviets were in the lead with Sputnik 1 but the two eventually came together to create the International Space Station. -

The U.S. trains Cuban refugees to overthrow communist dictator Fidel Castro. They arrived on land at th Bay of Pigs but were quickly defeated. -
Reagan visits the wall
Reagan visited the Berlin Wall as a display of continued commitment to the people of West Berlin. The Berlin Wall separated the people of East and West Berlin. -
SALT
One of the step to limiting the arms race. The arms race was a race between the U.S. and the Soviet Union to develop more devestating weapons faster than the other. -
Cuban Missile Crisis
Rumors of the Soviets setting up missiles aimed towards the U.S. were made true. This was the closest the U.S. and Soviets ever got to fighting. -
Soviets Invade Afghanistan
The Soviets took control pof the military in different parts of the country. The U.S. boycotted the 1980s Olympics becaise of this. -
Germany's Reunification
East and West Germany finally reunite. East Germany gives up communism. Proof that the Warsaw Pact was soon to end.
