    The Yalta Conference

    The Yalta Conference was a meeting between "the Big Three" it consisted of Roosevelt, Churchill, and Stalin. The whole point of the meeting was to discuss how to bring peace back to Europe after Germany was defeated.

    The Iron Curtain Speech
    Winston Churchill's Iron Curtain Speech was not referring to a literal Iron curtain, but more to the separation of Western Democracy from the Soviet rule, the two had nothing to do with each other, and it created a separation of power.

    Potsdam Conference

    The Potsdam was another meeting between the big three. This time it consisted of Stalin, Churchill, and Truman, as Roosevelt had passed away. The purpose of this meeting was to establish what was to establish peace treaties and recuperating from the effects of war.

    Truman Doctrine
    The Truman Doctrine was a plan to use 400 million dollars to aid Turkey and Greece. The thought behind this was that if they fell to communism other countries would follow, and that threatened the Democratic way of life.

    The Marshall Plan
    The Marshall plan was an economic rebuilding of European countries. The US spent 12 billion dollars rebuilding Western Europe. The point of this was to keep communism out of Europe. The Americans were afraid that in these countries weakened states that communism might sound like the answer so they helped in the rebuilding process to ensure that they stayed democratic.

    Berlin Airlift

    The Berlin Airlift was the allies response to the Soviet's Berlin blockade, were they tried to starve the allies out of Berlin by cutting off all land supply routes. The Allies responded by Airlifting supplies in for over a year to spite the Soviet's. This made tensions rise even farther than they already were.

    After the war had ended Germany was split into two halves. West and East Germany. West Germany was then split 3 ways between France, Britain, and the US. All of the Western states got along fine, but there was literally a wall in between the West and East.

    When the Soviet Union first tested the Atomic Bomb tensions went through the roof. Up until then no one was worried about Russia because we had nukes, but when everyone found out that Russia did, fear was driven into every person in the US.

    The Warsaw Pact was the Soviet counterbalance to NATO. The Soviet Union and their seven satellite countries met in Warsaw, Poland and signed a treaty. What this really did was allow the Soviet Union to push their military forces into all of these countries
