    The Korean war breaks out, its a deadly conflict between the communists in the north and the Capitalists in the south, it also ushered in a new era for jets. This was important to the cold war as this was the first major engagement between communist and capitalist forces.
  • Launch Of Sputnik

    Sputnik was the first probe launched into space, it was also the first space craft launched into space, which was done by the USSR. this is important as the space race was a major part, and the USSR was speeding ahead from this achievement

    The Cuban Missile Crisis was a major event during the cold war, for thirteen days (Oct14-Oct27) John F Kennedy was trying to get Russian Ballistic Missiles out of Cuba before they could be launched. It is important to the cold war because it shows the extremely high tensions between the two superpowers.

    The Vietnam war was a very bloody and deadly war, it was actually started in the 1940's, but U.S involvement didn't start until 1960. the main method used by the U.S. was Napalm strikes, which was basically jellied Petroleum. It was important to the cold war because it was the major engagement and victory, but for the communists.

    The Bay of Pigs Invasion was a three day operation carried out by a CIA funded Paramilitary Force, on The Bay of Pigs, in Cuba, the operation was a disaster. this was significant to the cold war because it showed that even small communist nations, like Vietnam or Cuba, are extremely dangerous and very well armed.

    The creation of the Berlin wall was done to Separate the two halves of Berlin, the Capitalist West Berlin, and the Communist East Berlin, it is significant to the cold war, because it shows how tensions are rising higher and higher between the two powers.

    Salt 1 was an agreement signed by the United States and the Union of Soviet Socialist Republics in 1972/1979. It was intended to restrain the arms race in strategic ballistic missiles armed with nuclear weapons an Interim Agreement on certain measures limiting strategic offensive arms.

    SALT I and SALT II were both talks between the president of the United states and the USSR, These talks limited the use of Nuclear Weapons, ICBMs (Inter Continental Ballistic Missiles) and ABMs (Anti-Ballistic Missiles) this was important to the cold war because it showed that the tensions between the USSR and the US were decreasing pretty quickly.
