The Soviet Union put up a blockade on the Western part of Berlin, cutting off any way for food an supplies to get to the people there. The US used an Airlift to get supplies in, and saved the people's lives. -
Creation of NATO
The North Atlantic Treaty Organization was made up of the US, Canada, and a few Western European countries. It was meant to protect against the Soviet Union. -
Korean War
North Korea attacked South Korea, in an attempt to unite the two. The US fought on the side of South Korea, China fought on the side of North Korea, and the conflict was resolved in 1953. Not much was changed in the course of the war. -
Warsaw Pact
The Warsaw Pact was made by the Soviet Union and a few Eastern European countries. It was the communist counteraction to the Western NATO. -
Vietnam War
The Vietnam War was also known as the Second Indochina War. In it, America fought Vietnam to prevent further spread of communism. It lasted until 1975. -

The US government aids an attempt to overthrow the communist government of Cuba.The attempt did not work. -
Cuban Missile Crisis
The US discovered that the Soviet Union had missiles in Cuba and demanded that they remove them. After thirteen days, they did. -
Velvet Revolution
The Velvet Revolution, also called the Gentle Revolution, was a series of peaceful protests in Czechoslovakia. They eventually led to the overthrowing of the communist government.
