  • Creation of the United Nations

    Creation of the United Nations
    The United Nations was created on October 24th, 1945. It ended just under 2 months after WW2 ended. It was created to help maintain world wide peace and prevent another WW2 type war of happening again.
  • Berlin Blockade

    Berlin Blockade
    The Berlin Blockade lasted from June 24th, 1948 - May 12th, 1949. The Soviet Union blocked all forms of land access to the section of Berlin under the western powers control. The western powers had to fly in supplies practically around the clock.
  • Creation of NATO

    Creation of NATO
    The North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) was made on April 4th, 1949. It was created to provide protect allies from the Soviet Union.
  • Korean War

    The Korean War was between North and South Korea. It started June 25th, 1950 through July 27th, 1953. The US entered the war because it was thought that the war could have been started with Soviet and (communist) Chinese influence.
  • Cuban Revolution

    Cuban Revolution
    The Communist revolution of Cuba lasted from July 26th, 1953 till January 1st, 1959. The Cuban Communist revolutionaries were led by Fidel Castro. The country of Cuba remains communist to this day.

    The Warsaw Pact was created on May 14, 1955. It was created to keep communist dominance alive in east to central Europe.

    The Space Race referred to the 20 year time period between August 8th, 1955 and July 17th, 1975. It was a race to higher points of achievements out in Space.

    The Vietnam war was a proxy war between the Soviet Union and United States. Despite the name it took place all over South East Asia. It wasted from November 1st, 1955 through April 10th, 1975.

    The U2 incident of 1960 was a day an American U-2 spy plane was shot down by Soviet Forces over Soviet Air space. The event resulted in the cancelation of the Paris summit.

    The Bay of Pigs Invasion was a three day invasion of the South West coast of Cuba that took place from April 17th, 1961 through April 20th, 1961. It was a failure for the US supported Brigade 2506.

    The Berlin Crisis of 1961 was a two day crisis when the Soviet controlled Eastern Germany began to build a barrier between East Germany and West Berlin.

    The Cuban Missile Crisis was a 13 day crisis involving the Soviet Union, the United States and Cuba. It was considered the closest to full-scale nuclear war we came to during the Cold War.

    The Chernobyl disaster took place April 26th, 1986 in modern day Ukraine. Chernobyl is two hours north of the capital city of Kyiv. The long term death toll from the disaster is in the large range of 4,000 to 200,000 people.

    The Fall of Berlin wall marked the up to 7 year blockade from East to West Berlin. The fall of the Berlin wall marked the beginning of Germany becoming one once again.

    The Soviet Union was dissolved on December 26th, 1991. Fifteen countries came from the former Communist Power. Some of the most well known countries coming from that is Russia, Ukraine, Latvia, Lithuania, Estonia and Belarus.
