The berlin blockade was when the soviets blocked land and water access to people in Berlin. The US helped the poeple out by sending food and supplies via planes. The GASPIRE theme used here is Social because Soviet union wanted to create poverty and sufferage in Berlin, but the US helped avoid this. This was a conflict but the Soviets gave in after 278 thousand flights -
COMECON
Councel for Mutual Economic Assistance. This was the soviet response to the Marshall Plan, used to avoid having ties with the US, Countries did not want to owe the US money. This made competition with the US, the US could have made a lot of money off loans but comecon took this chance away. Gaspire theme used was Economic because Comecon had to do with money and economy. -
NATO
NATO stands for North Atlantic Treaty Organization. This was formed to pledge and protect one another if ever attacked by an outsider. This caused conflict because it combined countries to form alliances against others. The gaspire theme used here is political because the leaders of countries isolated other leaders. -
Korean War
The US supported south korea, while Soviet Union and China supported North Korea during the war. The war seperated the countries and communism did not spread. The Gaspire theme here is Geographical because North and South Korea got seperated at te 38th parallel on the map. -
Warsaw Pact
The warsaw pact included the 7 eastern european sattelites. They saw leaving the pact as disloyalty and they provided protection for one another. The gaspire theme used is Political because loyalty was important. -

The USSR and the USA were in a competition to see who was better technologically, and russia had the first man in space. The US wanted to put a man on the moon, so they did on July 20, 1969. Bay of Pigs Invasion
Fidel Castro overthrew the Cuban gov't, and he implemented a communist regime with support of US rivals. The US responded by sending troops to invade them, but they failed. The GASPIRE theme used is Political because the US wanted to prevent the spread of communism. This affected peace by causing disruptions in the world powers and violence. -
Cuban Missile Crisis
Soviet Union sent nuclear missiles into Cuba, and US was not happy because the use of nuclear weapons is immoral. US responded by using a blockade on cuba. The gaspire theme used here is Intellectual because the soviet union wanted to prove that they were advanced and they had better tech. This caused competition to kick in -
Olympics: Basketball
Despite the US being successful in basketball, not losing a single game since 1936, the USSR beat them in the 72' olympics by one point! This caused a lot of dissapointment in the US. The GASPIRE theme is Social because the people of each country felt proud of their countries and superior. -
Olympics: Hockey
US and Russia faced off in the semifinals, and russia was considered the best of the best. The US was playing without any professional players, but this did not stop them from beating russia 4-3 and going on to win the gold medal. The gaspire theme used here is Social because this event attracted everyone and caused pride in all people of the US. -
Berlin Wall Collapses
The tearing down of the Berlin wall signified the end of communism in eastern europe and people in europe all united and they could all be one country once again. The gaspire theme is Political because the a type of government collapsed to accomodate another. -

Donald Trump attended memorial to the Berlin Wall, he met up with people of the NATO. connects to the cold war because the Berlin wall was torn down, and people will always remember it and honor the day that communism ended in eastern Europe.
