After lots of rising tension on the Peninsula, the war finally began. The main purpose of the Korean War was to secure the Korean peninsula so the Soviet Union, China, and North Korea could use it for a communist bloc. -
Creation of the Warsaw Pact
The Soviet Union made the Warsaw Pact because it wanted to counteract the actions of the NATO treaty from 1949. -

The Vietnam war was strictly about a very long conflict in Asia. Vietnam split in two parts but after a while they wanted to reunite the country through communism and its political and economic system. -
Sputnik
The USSR launched a space race and it started with the launch of Sputnik. The launch of Sputnik served to intensify and raise Cold War tensions. -
Construction of the Berlin Wall
German soldiers built lots of barbed wire barriers throughout the heart of Berlin. They constructed the Wall so that the German Republic could control the population from escaping Soviet-controlled territory. -
Cuban Missile Crisis
The Soviet Union began to launch nuclear missiles into Cuba. The Soviet Union started the Cuban Missile Crisis because they wanted to confront them and this is the way they thought to do it. Eventually, the US won because they gave in to Khrushchev's demands. -
Moon Landing
Apollo 11 was the first crewed mission that landed on the moon. The main purpose of this moon landing was to gather some samples of the moon's surface to bring back to Earth. -
Destruction of the Berlin Wall
The Berlin wall was destroyed because there was the democratization of some other eastern/central states. Some sections of the wall were torn down by East German guard crews.
