  • Hiroshima and Nagasaki

    Hiroshima and Nagasaki
    The Cold War started because of this. On August 6, 1945, we dropped an atomic bomb onto the Japanese city Hiroshima. On August 9, 1945, we dropped a second atomic bomb on Nagasaki. The final death toll was between 100,000 to 240,000 people.
  • Korean War

    Korean War
    This war a civil war between the Korean people, the North and South Koreans. It started on June 25, 1950 and ended on July 27, 1953. The U.S. interveined in this war becasue it had to do with the United Nations.
  • Cuban Revolution

    Cuban Revolution
    The Cuban Revolution occured when an armed militia revolted against Cuban dictator Fulgencio Batista. The revolution ended on Januar 1, 1959, and this was the beginning of Communist rule under Fidel Castro.
  • Vietnam War

    Vietnam War
    The Vietnam War was a Cold War era military conflict that took place in Vietnam, Cambodia, and Laos. It was fought by the North Vietnamese with other anti-communist countries against the South Vietnamese.
  • Sputnik

    Sputnik
    Sputnik was the first artificial earth satellite. In was launched on October 4, 1957 into low earth orbit. It was used to send radio signals and send information back on the ionosphere. The major players were the Soviet Union and America.
  • U-2 Incident

    U-2 Incident
    This occured when an American U-2 spyplane was shot down over the airspace of the Soviet Union. At first, the government denied the plane's mission and purpose. But eventually the Soviet's found out what it was doing.
  • Cuban Missle Crisis

    Cuban Missle Crisis
    The Cuban Missle Crisis was a 13 day confrontation between the Soviet Union, America, and Cuba. It was considered a major event of the Cold War. It was also considered to be the closest the world came to a nuclear conflict.
  • First Moon landing

    First Moon landing
    Apollo 11 was the first spacecraft carrying humans to land on the moon. Buzz Aldrin and Neil Armstrong were the first two humans to set foot on the moon. This specifically ended the Space Race set between the Soviets and America.
  • Rocky IV

    Rocky IV
    "Rocky IV" was a propaganda film starring Sylvester Stallone. In the movie there was a Russian fighter and his trainers were from Russia and Cuba. Rocky trains throughout the movie for the fight. In the end, Rocky wins the fight. It is very similar to the Cold War.
  • Berlin Wall Falls

    Berlin Wall Falls
    The Berlin Wall was constructed by East Germany in 1961. I seperated West and East Berlin. When the wall fell in 1989, it was considered a "peaceful revolution". The once serperated Germans were reunited again.
