Since the Soviet Union started the Berlin Blockade cutting of food and supply Berlin had no way to get food and water. On June 34 British 32 C-47's lifted off for Berlin hauling 80 tons of cargo,including milk, flour, and medicine. The airlift was expected to last 3 weeks.

On Nov 9, !989 East German government official Günter Schabowski stated, "Permanent relocations can be done through all border checkpoints between the GDR (East Germany) into the FRG (West Germany) or West Berlin." Border guards were finally letting people cross it was a joyous moment people were hugging, kissing , singing, and dancing.
People started chipping away at the wall with hammers until it eventually was knocked down.
