China's Civil War
The Chinese Civil War broke out when Japan surrenedered at the end of WW2. The conflict was between the Chinese Communist Party and the Nationalist Party trying to vie for control of Manchuria and Northern China. -
End of WW2
WW2 ended with the dropping of the atomic bombs on the Japanese cities of Hiroshima and Nagasaki. Japan official surrendered September 2nd, 1945 aboard the USS Missouri in Tokyo Bay. -
United Nations
The U.N. was formed after WW2 to try to keep the peace between nations in the future. -
Iron Curtain Speech
British Prime Minister, Winston Churchill, gave a speech about Soviet Union Policies. He disagrees with their tactics, and states that an "Iron Curtain" has decended between the countries of Europe. -
Truman Doctrine
The Truman Doctrine was a pledge made by the United States saying that they would protect Democratic Nations from outside fources. This was meant to contain Soviet Union influence is other countries and nations. -
Marshall Plan
The Marshall Plan was put in place during the Cold War to aid Western Europe that had been destroyed by war. It was officially named the European Recovery Program (ERP) and gave $13 billion in aid. -
Berlin Airlift
The Berlin Airlift was a military action taken to spully aid to U.S. occupied Berlin. -
NATO
The North Atlantic Treaty Organization was formed by several powerful nations in order to contain Soviet Union from spreading communism. -
1st Atom Bomb Test by USSR
The USSR's first atomic bomb was tested in Kazakhstan. The scientists placed different structures and animals at different intervals around the test site to see the effects of the radiation. -
Korean War
The Korean War started when the Communist North Koreans crossed the 38th parrallel into South Korea. The United Nations eventually intervened on the side of the South Koreans. The fighting ended in a stalemate and armistice at the 38th parrallel. -
First Succesful test of the H-Bomb
The United States was the first country to successfully test the Hydrogen Bomb. The test was nicknamed "Mike" and he Mushroom cloud was 100 miles wide and 25 miles high. -

Mutual Assured Destruction is a political plan that is to prevent destruction of the world. If an all out war using Nuclear War there would be assured destruction. -
Dwight D. Eisenhower
Eisenhower was the commanding general in WW2 leading the United States to a victory. He then became president and lead the US to a truce in Korea. He also oversaw the desegragation of public schools. -
Joseph Stalin Dies
Stalin's death is something that is debated among historians. Some think he died of a heart attack others of a stroke. When guards found him they were too scared to touch him; doctors were not called until the next day. -

Put in place by Dwight D. Eisenhower during the Cold War to contain communism in the territories of Vietnam, Laos, and Cambodia. -
Warsaw Pact
The Soviet Union and the Satellite States made a pact during the Cold War that stated when one country would come under attack they would support each other. -
Francis Gary Power
Powers was a pilot in the U-2 program. The U-@ pilots flew over communist countries and watched for nuclear activity. Powers was a pilot that got shot down over Russia, captured and sent to a labor prison. When he returned to the US he was not welcomed kindly. -
Eisenhower Doctrine
The Eisenhower Doctrine was proposed by Eisenhower and was a plan to protect the independent nations in the middle east from communist. -
Sputnik
Sputnik was the first ever artificial satellite to be launched into space. The Soviet Union was the country that launched the satellite. -
Fidel Castro take over of Cuba
Castro constructed a communist revolution in Cuba. His forces eventually won and Castro took over as Prime Minister. -
John F. Kennedy
Kennedy had a lot of firsts in his presidency. He was the youngest president ever elected, first Catholic president, and the first election that televised the presidential debates. "Ask not what can your country do for you but what can you do for your country. -
Bay of Pigs
President Kennedy sent Cuban refugees back into Cuba to try to restore power. The mission failed within 24 hours. -
Berlin Wall
The Berlin wall was built during the Cold War to separate the communists/facists in the West and the socialists in the East in the city of Berlin, Germany. -
Cuban Missile Crisis
After Fidel Castro took over in Cuba the Soviet Union formed an alliance with them. The Soviets started supplying Cuba with nuclear missiles. This put the U.S. within striking distance.
