the fbi learned the secret construction of the attomic bomb had been stolen and turned over to the soviet union. after interogating a german born attomic scientist, the train led to julius and ethel rosenburg. julius was charged withespionage on july 1950. ethel was charged on august 11 1950. they both pled not guilty. after a long trial they were both found guilty on february 11 1953 juliest ethel were exicuted on june 18 1953 -
korean war
75000 north korean soldiers came across the border to south korea. by the next month american troops entered the war fighting with south korea against north korea. the americans thought it was a war against international communism.both sides worked to come to an agreement however by july of 1953 the war came to an end with the korean peninsule some 5 million soldiers and cavillians were killed. -
vietnam war
north vietnam and vietcong versus south vietnam and the US. more than 3 million people (58,000 americans) were killed. over half of those were vietnamese civillians. opposition to the war in the us led to divisions among americans. the war ended in i975 -
bay of pigs
the united states was trying to attack cuba but do it secritave. they gave a group of cuban exiles american planes that they painted to look like stolen cuban planes. they wrere gunna take the planes and attack fedele casteros air force. these exiles bombed the islands souther shore which is known as the bay of pigs. caseros troops overtook the soldiers and theere were 114 killed and ove 1000 prisoners. -
berlin wall
east germany started building a barbed wire and cement wall between east and west berlin. the purpose was to keep western germans from coming to east germany except at a checkpoint. only under special circumstances were travelers allowed to cross. the wall did stop conflict between east and west berlin
