    Berlin Airlift
    The Soviets cut off all routes between West Germany and West Berlin. The U.S. then decided to use the air to deliver all types of supplies and resources to West Berlin.
  • Korean War

    Korean War
    After WW2 Korea was divided by the U.S. to the South and China/Russia to the North. This is important because with the help of the U.S. the South didn't allow the North and Soviets to come in and take over. This was a fight to stop the Soviets from spreading their communism views.
  • Sputnik

    Sputnik
    The Soviets launched the first satellite into space. This caused the U.S. to panic. This made the U.S. think that the Soviets were more technologically advanced then they were. This led the U.S. to spend more money in their eeducation system to catch up technologically wise.
  • U-2 Incident

    U-2 Incident
    The Soviets shot down a U.S. U-2 plane. This outraged the U.S. and raised the tension between the two nations.
  • Bay of Pigs

    Bay of Pigs
    The CIA trained a military group and tried to invade communist Cuba. Cuba was able to hold them off and make them retreat in about 3 days. This led Cuba to strengthen their ties with the Soviets.
  • Cuban Missile Crisis

    Cuban Missile Crisis
    A U-2 spy plane flew over Cuba and discovered a construction site for nuclear missiles. This put the U.S. on high alert since the distance was very close to the U.S.
  • Khruschev withdraws missiles

    Khruschev withdraws missiles
    Khruschev agreed to withdraw the missiles from the U.S.. This was in part because of the warnings that the U.S. was issuing the Soviets.
  • Vietnam War

    The U.S. was helping South Vietnam fight Communist North Vietnam with help from the Soviets. This was important because this was a chance for the U.S. and Soviets to indirectly fight eachother without actually declaring war.

    This was an international treaty that helepd limit the number of nuclear weapons as well as the spread of nuclear technology. This was important because they wanted nations to avoid using nuclear technology at all costs.

    This basically led the U.S. and Soviets to limit the number of nuclear weapons. This was significant because it made people worry less about the use of nuclear weapons since they were so dangerous.

    This war was between Afghan forces that were led by the Soviets against a rebel group that was backed by the U.S. Again, this was a chance for both the U.S. and Soviets to indirectly fight eachother in war without having to declare war.
  • New General Secretary

    Mikhail Gorbachev became the new general secretary of the Communist Party of the Soviet Union. He brought more deomcratic western ideas to the Soviet Union which would soon lead to it's collapse.
  • Reagan Visits the Berlin Wall

    Reagan Visits the Berlin Wall
    President Reagan visits the Berlin Wall. He called for Gorbachev to open up the barrier that seperated East and West Berlin.

    People got word that it was ordered for the barriers to open up for travel. People began to chip away at it and there were to many people for the guards to handle.
  • USSR Officially Dissolved

    USSR Officially Dissolved
    The USSR officially dissolved. This ended the Cold War as well.
