  • Berlin Blockade and Airlift

    Russia blocks off roads and railroad supply lines to West Berlin. Many in West Berlin faced starvation. The US and UK brought food and supplies to West Berlin through airplanes, bringing about the Berlin Airlift.
  • Korean War

    Korean War
    Korean War started once 75,000 soldiers from North Korea past the 38th parallel and into Republican South Korea. In July, US forces entered the war on South Korea's side. The Korean Peninsula remains to be separate to this day.
  • Geneva Accords

    Set of arrangements made to resolve the war between France and the Democratic Republic of Vietnam.
  • Warsaw Pact Formed

    A formed alliance between the Soviet Union and Eastern European countries. This was formed as a counterbalance to the North Atlantic Treaty Organization.
  • Space Race

    The U.S. entered into the space race against the Soviet Union which was the race to see who could gain the most experience in space the fastest. Soviets started the race with the building of the Sputnik 1. Although they kept competing, this competition brought about the International Space Station and created NASA.

  • U-2 Plane

    The Soviet Union shot down a U-2 spy plane with pilot Gary Powers and held him hostage. President Eisenhower was forced to tell the Soviet Union that the CIA had been spying on the Soviet Union for years.

  • Bay of Pigs

    The invasion was meant to destroy the Cubans air bases so they couldn't bomb U.S. air spaces or destroy anything else. Almost immediately though the plan failed and the CIA kept it a secret for as long as they could.
  • Reagan Visits the Wall

    On the 750th anniversary of the city of Berlin, Reagan went to visit the wall that had separated the city for a long time. He delivered one of the most important lines in history when he told Gorbachev to tear down the wall.

    A wall was built to separate East Berlin (Russia) from West Berlin (UK and US) after a conflict with the choice of what to do after WWII.
  • Cuban Missile Crisis

    The Soviet Union planted missiles in Cuba. A close spot to the United States, many citizens lived in fear for 13 days during this fearful tension time.
  • JFK Assassination

    Assassinated by Lee Harvey Oswald who was shot by Ruby the day before his trial. This stands to be one of the cases with the most theories.
  • Vietnam War

    In an attempt to stop Communism, America entered into the Vietnam war on behalf of the Democratic South. America started a draft during this war and many people were frustrated of what our intention was in being in the war.
  • Strategic Arms Limitation Talks

    The Strategic Arms Limitation talks resulted from Reagan wanting to start a program for missile defense. This was signed in 1991 by both the Soviet Union and the United States as a source to keep the peace between the countries.
  • Soviets invade Afghanistan

    The Soviet Union intervened in Afghanistan to support the Afghan Communist. Once they entered the war with Afghanistan the United States and the Soviet Union's agreements had come to an end from the nuclear arms race.
  • Reunite Germany

    The wall was meant to keep those in East Germany from going to West Germany, but Hungary started to take down their fence so people from the East could escape to the West. Once the fence was all taken down, most of the people from East Berlin had passed to West Berlin. The Berlin wall was finally taken down after Gorbachev had realized that he couldn't control the people anymore.
