Joseph McCarthy accused many politicians of being communist spies. All this and the fear of communists created the Red Scare. -
Harry Truman is president
When Franklin D. Roosevelt died Truman took his place. In the first few months of his term he dropped the atomic bombs in Hiroshima and Nagasaki. Pledged to resist communism with Truman Doctrine. -
United Nations Created
Created as a replacement for the League of Nations. This organization tried to deter countries from war. -

A pledge to resist communism and contain it, but not eradicate it. -

The Marshall Plan was introduced this day. It was made to help rebuild areas affected by war and keep communism from spreading. -

NATO created as a way of peacekeeping and crisis management. At the time it was created in response to communism in Europe. -

Joseph McCarthy accused many government officials and destroyed their reputation. He said he had a list and he had no evidence of this. -

The Korean War was started in the 38th parallel when communist North Korean troops attacked Japanese troops. This triggered a war for what government Korea would have. It ended as a draw as the country split at the 38th parallel. -

Eisenhower eased tensions during the Cold War and helped with the truce of Korea. -
Vietnam War
The Vietnam war started when the Viet-Cong rebellion started fighting for communism. The war ended with communists overthrowing the Americans and South Vietnamese troops. Vietnam became a Communist society. -
John F. Kennedy is elected
Tried to overthrow Cuban government by sending troops to Cuba, creating the Cuban Missile Crisis. Stopped Cuban Missile Crisis through a series of promises. -
Bay of Pigs invasion
The Bay of Pigs invasion was an attempt to overthrow Fidel Castro and his Communist government by the Americans. -
Cuban Missile Crisis
After the Bay of Pigs invasion the Soviet Union equipped Cuba with missiles. America was scared because Cuba is so close and evacuation would be impossible at that range. It ended with JFK making promises to take missiles out of Turkey and not to attack Cuba. -
Lyndon B. Johnson is president
After JFK was assasinated Lyndon B. Johnson took his place. Passed Voting Rights Act of 1965 allowing more people the right to vote. -

At this day John F. Kennedy was assassinated by Lee Harvey Oswald. Lyndon B. Johnson took his place. -

When he was elected he established a system of vietnamization. It was a way of gradually taking away American troops from Vietnam and replacing them with South Vietnamese troops. -

He is the 40th president of the united states. He stimulated the economy with his "Reaganomics", but in the process created over 3 trillion dollars in debt. -
George H.W. Bush is elected
He was vice president under Reagan for 2 terms. In his term he helped people who were affected by disease during cold war testing and increased taxes. -
The Fall of Communism in Eastern Europe
Communism is finally gone and The Berlin Wall fell and many Eastern Europeans went to Western Europe to meet. -

George H. W. Bush sends troops to Saudi Arabia to defend against Sadam Hussein. -
The Collapse of the Soviet Union
Mikhail Gorbachev resigned this day and Boris Yeltsin is left as the president -
William Clinton is elected
William Clinton created peacetime for the economy. He cut taxes and managed to restore the economy. -

NAFTA is signed for free trade in the North Atlantic region. -

George Bush made tax cuts using 1.3 trillion dollars. He comforted citizens during 9/11. During the rise of terrorism and pledged to fight it and start a war on terrorism. -

The twin towers are hit by hijacked planes causing the death of about 3000 people. -

After the 9/11 attacks troops were sent to Afghanistan to fight terrorism. -

War was started to stop terrorism and take down Saddam Hussein's government.
