Berlin Blockade
The Berlin blockade was a large blockade set by Soviet Russia on Berlin when the Western Allied Powers were on their way to take over Berlin. The blockade cut the city off entirely from the rest of Germany and the world. -
Berlin Airlifts
Some time after the blockade was put in the place the Allied forces saw how the people of the city were starving and low on supplies. This led to the allies drop supplies like food, water, and clothing to the people stuck in Berlin. They did this via airlift. -
The Creation of NATO
The North Atlantic Treaty Organization, or NATO, was formed in April of 1949 following the signing of North Atlantic Treaty. The organization provides a colective defence where its members' states agree to mutual defence if another is to come under attack from and external soucre. -
Korean War
The Korean War took place when the Soviet Union ahd declared was on Japan as it had been in control of Korea for a long time. The United States enters not long after and fights for the southern region while Russia has the north. In the end the was results in a stalemate and Korea is split into a North and South region. -
President Truaman Fires MacArthur
WWII hero Douglas MacArthur was relieved of his duty during the Korean war by President Truman by disagreence. Douglas wanted to expand the war in Korea by using more advanced weapons such as the atomic bombs and expand the fighting into China, whilst Truman wanted a limited war with normal weapons and for the area to be restricted to Korea. -
The Formation of The Warsaw Pact
The Warsaw pact was somewhat of a copy of NATO, but instead for the eastern communist nations. It was put in place as to enforce mutual defence jsut as NATO had, except for the 8 communist nations part of soviet russia at the time. -
Launching of Sputnik
Soviet Russia had launched the first astronomical satelite into the earths atmosphere in order to gain information about the earth and space. This however highly discouraged the U.S as most citizens believed it to be a spy satelite. -
Cuban Missile Crisis
In response to Ballistic missles of the U.S being in range of Moscow, the leader of the Soviet Union at the time have large amounts of nuclear missle sites built and loaded into Cuba to deter future harassment of Cuba. This 14 day long time period nearly resulted in full nuclear war between the two parties. -
NSC-68
The Natioanl Security Council Report #68 was a 58 page secret policy paper that largely shaped U.S foreign policy at the time. The main topic of the paper was that the stopping of communist expansion was the U.S's highest priority at that time.
