The Cuban Missile Crisis was the closest the world ever came to a nuclear war. The Soviet Union sent nuclear missiles to Cuba. President Kennedy reacted by positioning a naval blockade, blocking any further shipments from the Soviet. During that time, the United States and the Soviet Union were engaged in the Cold War. -

The United States built detente with the Soviet Union during the Cold War. The intention was to restrain the Soviet Union peacefully through diplomatic agreements rather than military tactics. The would have relieved some of the tension between the two. -
The Berlin Wall is Toppled
The Berlin Wall was built, as well as destroyed during the Cold War. Its purpose was to prevent East Germans from fleeing into Berlin. Following the wall's resignation.. East Germany allowed unrestricted migration to West Germany.
