    Yalta Conference
    After the defeat of Germany and the end of World War 2, the Yalta Conference occured. Russia, America, Great Britian, and France divided Germany into four regions. The "Big Three" planned how things would be handled during these postwar times.
  • First Atomic Bomb

    In New Mexico, the frist atomic bomb was created. Scientists working with the Manhattan Project sucessfully created this bomb which caused the rest of the world in fear.
  • Hiroshima

    Hiroshima
    In Japan, American bombers dropped the world's first ever atomic bomb used in war, called "Little Boy". The devestation left by this attack was the beginning of a passive war and has never been forgotten.
  • Formation of the Iron Curtain

    Formation of the Iron Curtain
    Prime Minister Churchill spoke in front of his British citizens about the formation of the iron curtain. The iron curtain was not a physical wall between the Soviet Union and the United States, but a spoken boundary placed betweent he two powerful nations.

    Truman Doctrine
    President Harry Truman officially pledged that America would do any means necessary to stop communism from speading our of the USSR. He did this to ensure our national security and to prevent something as horrible as World War 2 from occuring again.

    Creation of NATO
    The U.S. and Canada, along with ten other nations, created an anti-Soviet military alliance. It became known as the North Atlantic Treaty Organization.
  • Warsaw Pact

    Warsaw Pact
    The Warsaw Pact was formed byt he Soviet Union. It was intended to be a communistic military alliance that would counter the action taken by NATO.

    The United States became fearful when hearing that the Soviet Union had created their own atomic bomb.

    Created by the United States, the first ever hydrogen bomb was made. This weapon was extremely dangerous and much more powerful than the atomic bombs.

    Best known for his sucessful leadership as an American general during World War 2, Dwight D. Eisenhower wins the presidential election of 1952.

    USSR developed a hydrogen bomb
    Nine months after the U.S. created the first ever hydrogen bomb, the Soviet Union created their own in hopes of keeping up with the arms race between these two nations.

    Creation of NASA
    The National Aeronautics and Space Administration was created by America. The purpose of this administration was to help the U.S. keep up with all of the space exploration done by the Soviet Union.
  • Cuban Missle Crisis

    Cuban Missle Crisis
    The U.S. saw a new threat to not only their nation, but the entire world. The Soviet leader had sent missles to Cuba, advancing their opportunity to use their nuclear weapons. President Kennedy was able to shut down their plan by accepting certain terms presented by the Soviet Union.

    Fall of the Berlin Wall
    The Berlin Wall was a barrier divinding Berlin into seperate regions. It served as a symbol of the Cold War. The East Berlin’s Communist Party announced the fall of the wall and the beginning of unity between the West and East regions.

    The Soviet Union and their communistic ways fell shortly after the Berlin Wall. This gave way for the modern nation of Russia to be created.
