Description: Us dropped a massive atomic bomb. Bomb completely destroyed both towns and killed thousands of people.
Cold War: Changed Stalins attitide. Made him want to play "hard ball" thus giving the "Bolshoi speech" accusing America of using our atomic bomb for imperialism.

Truman Doctrine

Involved: US, Turkey and Greece
Description: U.S. would support Greece and Turkey with economic and military aid to prevent them from falling into the Soviet sphere.
Cold War: Often considered the start of the Cold War.

Berlin Blockade and Airlift

Jun 24, 1948

Involved: Western Allies, Germany and The Soviet Union
Description: Germany and The Soviet Union blocked railroads, roads, and even built a wall to keep the Western Allies from importing or exporting anything in hopes that they would divide. In response they created the airlift. So planes could transport goods to them.
Cold War: Resulted in the creation of two seperate German states.

Korean War

Involved: South Korea and North Korea
Description: North and South Korea believed in two completely different kinds of government. So, instead of negotiation, decided to create a war out of it.
Cold War: result of the political division of Korea

Bay of Pigs

Mar 19, 1961

Involved: Cuba, and the US
Description: US unsuccessfully tried to invade Cuba in hopes to overthrow their government. In Cubas victory, they were led by Fidel Castro, winning in just three days!
Cold War: Gave them stronger intentions to join the Soviet Union, later leading to the Cuban Missile Crisis.

Six Day War

Involved: Israel, Egypt, Jordan, Syria
Description: Israel surprise raided Egypt with bombs. So, naturally, war broke out.
Cold War: Caused the Western Block

US lands man on the moon

Jun 20, 1969

Involved: US (NASA)
Description: Apollo 11 was the first manned aircraft to ever land on the moon. We were the first ever to read outer space.
Cold War: advanced our technology, scared other countries.

"Miracle on Ice"

Mar 19, 1980

Involved: Soviet Team, and US team
Description: The US team beat the Soviet team, who was undefeated. It became famous because the US finally beat the Soviets.
Cold War: Boosted US spirits to beat the Soviet Union.

Berlin Wall Falls

Involved: Berlin
Description: People in Berlin get tired of not being able to transport any of their goods, or get goods exported in that they create an "army" to destroy the Berlin wall.
Cold War: Paved the way for Germanys reunification

Malta Conference

Mar 19, 1989

Involved: President George H. W. Bush and U.S.S.R. leader Mikhail Gorbachev.
Description: Declared an end to the Cold War.
Cold War: Ended the Cold War.
