The U.S. created the marshall plan to hep reduce/eliminate things such as homelessness, hunger, and unemployment for people of east germany. this plan was mainly set to strengthen the economy as a whole, the money for this was taken directly from U.S. peoples pockets. -
Berlin Airlift
The Berlin Airlift was meant to get supplies and food into west berlin while it was occupied by the soviets.these airlifts went on for over 300 days. as the US and British supplied west berlin with supplies to prevent communism from spreading. -
Creation of NATO
12 nations joined together to defend a possible Soviet attack. they established the saying an attack against one is an attack on all. -
The Korean War
the communist northern korea set out across the border in hopes of reunifying the country. ends up becoming a big mess as china and the US get involved and basically ended almost exactly where it began at the 38th parallel. -
Vietnam War
north vietnam set out to create a communist government within vietnam as a whole. viet congs used gorilla style warfare quickly causing an upset for the US as they fail in stopping the imposement of communism in the country. -
Creation of the Warsaw Pact
basically the same thing as the NATO except it was for the soviets unions protection. main purpose was kind of a response to NATO. these countries had the same thing "an attack on one is an attack on all". -
Soviet launch Sputnik
soviets win the space race by being the first into outer space. they sent a satelite named sputnik up before the US. the US of course as a later response got to the moon. -
Fidel Castro comes to power in Cuba
fidel took power after a Dictator named fulgencio batista lost power after the Revolutionary war of cuba took place. Fidel assumed power as a dictator as he was a big name of the Cuban Rev war. -
Bay of Pigs
the US funded Rebels in Cuba with training and weapons to take over the cuban government. the ended up being a disaster and the US failed. this caused great friction between the two countries and foreign diplomatics were discontinued -
The Berlin Wall Goes Up
.the soviets created a wall down the center of the divided berlin. life in east germany was very hard compared to that of west germany. leaving east germany was extremely rare as they were trapped to their location. very few people escaped the soviet unions grasp here. -
Cuban Missile Crisis
.The US wanted to attack cuba and disrupt their government. however they were unable to proceed due to the fact the Soviets had missiles and such pointed directly at the US from the island. -
The Six Day War
the israels felt that the arab nations that surround them were going to attack them. the egyptians became furious and closed off the guld of aqaba to all israeli shipments. the attack by israel was successful as they took out most of the enemy nations military force. -
US Invades Grenada
the US invaded a small weak island of Grenada to change the government. very little american casualties occured. -
German Reunification/Fall of Berlin Wall
.the wall was taken down after many years of tearing between the area of berlin. as gorbachev took power in soviet russia he allowed the wall to be removed and the people of east germany be allowed to get visas easier and all restrictions were weakened. -
Collapse of the Soviet Union
as the soviets collapsed the US and other socialist and capitolistic countries rejoiced with glee as the enemy fell. the cold war ended after so many years. political ideals were for the most part settled.
