Sand Creek Massacre
About 700 soldiers form the Colorado milita, led by Colonel John M. Chivington, attacked a friendly village of Cheyenne and Arapaho. He ignored peace signs from the indians and killed about 70-163 indians, Most of which were women and children. -
Medicine Lodge Treaty
The Medicine Lodge Treaty was the name for 3 different treaties signed between the US and the southern plains indians. It promised peace for the Native Americans. But, it made the the reservations much smaller than the ones defined a 1865 treaty. Both the US and the indians failed to keep the conditions outlined in the treaty in the treaty. -
2nd Treaty of Ft. Laramie
It was a Peace Treaty between the U.S. government and the Lakotas, the Yanktinai Sioux, and the Santeee Sioux and Arapaho. The treaty was written and als signed at Fort Laramie in Wyoming. It guaranteed the Lakotas that they could have the Black Hills. It also ended Red Cloud's War. -
Battle of Palo Duro Canyon
The US Cavalry, led by Colonel Makenzie, attacked the Panhandle Plains from 5 directions, trapping the Indians. The soldiers torched their homes and killed anybody that they saw. Finally, the Comanche, Cheyenne, Kiowa and Apache surrendered. It ended the Red River War. -
Battle of the Little Big Horn
Gold had been found on Indian lands in South Dakota, and now the white men wanted that land for themselves. Indians were ordered off the lands but refused to leave. Custer had been warned that the Indians were waiting for him at the Black Hills. Instead of a surprise attack, Custer led a full charge straight into the area. He fought with thousands of fierce Indian warriors, and him and all of his men were killed. -

Relocation of the Nez Perce
The Nez Perce indiands were at war with other indian tribes, and they fled to Canada. The U.S. military persued them into Canada, captured them and forced them to relocate. -
Capture of Geronimo
He lead war bands of indians against the Mexican and American governments. After he surrendered in his old age, he was taken to fairs and things, but was never allowed to return back to the area that he was from. -
Ghost Dance Begins
A native american prophet predicted that if this dance was performed religiously and was performed right, that the natives would meet spirits that were close to them in the after life. -
Wounded Knee Massacre
The U.S. calvary went into a Native American camp to disarm them, and a deaf tribesman didn't know what was going on, and tried to keep his rifle. A shot was accidently fired, and the U.S. soldiers opened fire.
