Kansas-Nebraska Act
This act allowed the states of Kansas and Nebraska to have a say if they wanted to allow slavery within their borders. -

South Carolina secedes
South Carolina broke away from the United States, becoming the first salve state in the South to declare its succession. -
The Confederacy is formed
Seven states from Confederacy prepare themselves to become an independent nation. -
Fort Sumter was attacked
Lincoln prepared the fort with lots of supplies, but waited on the South to fire first. -
1st Battle of Bull Run
South defeated the Union in this war, McDowell was replaced by General McClellan. -
Monitor vs. Merrimack
Union created a blockade against the South, it was successful.This was the first battle with Navy ships. -
Battle of Shiloh
Grant defeats the South. Both the South and Union have over 10,000 casualties. -
2nd Battle of Bull Run
Stonewall Jackson defeated the Union troops. More generals are replaced, again. -
Battle of Antietam
A very bloody war, over 23,00 men were killed. -
The Emancipation Proclamation
Lincoln made an announcement that on January 1st, all slaves would be free, if and only if they were in the rebelling states. -
Battle of Fredricksburg
This was the 10th most costly land battle of the Civil War. There were over 18,000 casualties. -
Battle of Chancellorsville
Lee defeated Hooker, Jackson got shot and killed by his own men. -
Battle of Gettysburg
This was the largest battle in the Western Hemisphere, there was over 23,000 casualties on each sides. -
The 10% Plan
This plan wanted 10% loyalty to Lincoln because he needed people on his side. -
Battle of Petersburg
Main focus was railroad communication. The troops were living in trenches covering about 50 miles. -
Lee surrender to Grant
Lee was tired of seeing everyone suffer, he surrendered. They ended on generous terms. -
Lincoln was assasinated
John Wilkes Booth shot Lincoln when he was watching a play at Ford's Theater.
