Lincoln's Election of 1860
The election of 1860 had 4 candidates two democrats, a republican, and a constitutional party member. The democrats wanted slavery to be popular sovereignty in the north and just slavery in the south. The Republicans were against slavery. And the Constitutional party wanted slavery everywhere. In the end Lincoln won the election. After that south carolina left the united states. -
Southern Secession
After Lincoln's election South Carolina left the United States and wanted the commander at Fort Sumter to surrender the commander didn’t and stayed Lincoln wanted to supply the fort but the new confederate president Jefferson Davis didn’t want these supplies to get to the fort so he sent the state militia in to fort sumter and they attacked. During all of this more states left the union. When the fort was destroyed the commander surrendered and the south had captured fort sumter.
