  • Fort Sumter / Start of the War

    After seceding from the Union due to Lincoln's election, Confederates fired and captured the Union held Sumter in South Carolina. This event triggered the start of the Civil War.
  • First Battle of Bull Run

    In Manssas, Va, Union forces clashed with Confederate soldiers. It was near a major railroad center, heading into the town, and the fighting breaks out by a creek named Bull Run. Confederate Thomas Jackson got the nickname 'Stonewall Jackson' at this fight.

    Lee and grant agreed to meet in a house in the town of Appomattox Courthouse. The South surrendered to the North, but really the only thing they gave up was slavery. This was the end of the Civil War.
