1850 Compromise
Five parts of this compromise included California as a free state, New mexico and Utah could decide, No slave trade in Washington D.C., Texas would give up claim to new mexico territory, and Fugitive slave act - Required citizens apprehend runaway slaves (Victory for south). -

Kansas-Nebraska act of 1854 gave popular sovereignty to voters to decide whether or not to allow slavery. -

Lincoln wins the presidency without any electoral votes for the southern states. -
The south leaves the union
After South Carolina leaves the union, six other southern states leave as well forming the Confederate States of America.

Burnside of the union sets up an attack on Lee of the confederates but lose 13,000 men and the CSA only lose 5,000. -
Battle of Gettysburg
The Union sneak up on the CSA looking for supplies and dominates the battle and later becomes the turning point of the war. -
Battle of Vicksburg
This battle completely cut the south in half. -
Election of 1864 and End of War
Lincoln defeats McClellan (Confederate) , Ending any hope of a negotiated peace for the south. -
Freedman's bureau
This law states that all freed slaves from the south will be provided food, shelter, and education. -
Lincoln's Death
During and entertainment show president Lincoln is shot and killed by John Wilkes Booth. -
Reconstruction plans
Lincoln had a plan before he died called the "10%" plan. But new president Johnson releases the 13th amendment. -
14th amendment
All persons born in the united states were citizens. also former CSA were not allowed to be involved in political office. -
