The Union forces established a blockade. This blockade was to prevent the export of cotton and from people smuggling war materials. This blockade was also called "Scotts Great Snake". -
First battle of Bull Run
This was the first major land battle of the American Civil War. It started with 35,000 union soldiers marched to strike at the confederate soldiers of 20,000 along a river named "Bull Run". The confederate ended up winning the battle anyways and the General got replaced. -
Trent Affair
Charles Wilkes, who was a U.S Navy officer, captured two confederate convoys aboard the British ship, the "Trench". This caused a diplomatic crisis between the U.S and Great Britain. -
Battle of Shiloh
This battle allowed Union troops to penetrate the confederate interior and gain control of the war.
