Missouri Compromise
In order for the power of the North and South in Congress between slave and free states, the Missouri Compromise was passed in 1820 admitting Missouri as a slave state and Maine as a free state. This led to the Cilval War, because it pleased few people. It didn't please the north becasue the people who voted for Missouri as a slave state were considered traitors, and the south was mad becasue of the ban on slavery on states that might become theres. -
Compromise of 1850
The compromise of 1850 was created due to fights between the North and South arguing about whether California should join the Union as a free or slave state. Senetor Henry clay came up with a new plan to please everyone. His idea was the Fugitive Slave Act and the ban on slave trade in Washington, D.C. This allowed New Mexico and Utah territories to decide whether to allow slavery, which would please the south. This made the North mad becasue it basically made slavery legal almost everywhere. -
Kansas-Nebraska Act
Missouri Compromise was abolished. Left it to settlers to vote on whether to permit slavery in the two terrirtories. This led to the Cival War, because it gave citizens the power to choose whether to allow slavery or not; this would cause many arguments and eventually border ruffers who would eventually attack one side. -
Dred Scott Case
The Dred Scott Case was a case debating if a black man was a citizen or not and if slavery should be allowed in the west. The supreme court ruled that black men were not citizens and could not be taken from there owner without due process. This led to the Civil War because it caused many arguments about slavery. -
Election of 1860
Abraham Lincoln was elected president in this election against Stephan douglas. He was the first Republican president. While he was president the Civil War began and he had many debates with douglas about slavery. This caused probems because it made a lot of southerners dislike him. -
Attack of Fort Sumter
General P.G.T. Beauregard who was in command of the Confederate forces attacked Fort Sumter; causing the Union to surreneder and evacutate the next day.
