    35,000 Union troops marched from the capital to strike a Confederate force of 20,000 along a small river
  • Shiloh

    One of the most major Confederate victories. Battle where Lincoln changed commanders

    Had the highest percentage of casualties on the both sides of the war. One of the inconclusive battles of the Civil War.
  • Battle of Chancellorsville

    One of the major battles of the Civil War. One of the key engagements in the Chancellorsville campiagn.
  • Vicksburg

    The battle of Vicksburg was very important. The reason it was so important, however, is because it divided the south.

    Major Union victory and often considered the turning point of the Civil War.

    Another major confederate victory. Second highest battle casualty wise.

    Major Union win. Captured important railway city and seized control of a lot of railroad.

    First battle between Gen. Grant and Gen. Meade. Around 5,000 Americans were killed
  • Battle of Spotsylvania Courthouse

    Both sides declared victory during this battle. Around 32,000 casualties overall.
  • Battle of Cold Harbor

    Most significant fighting occured on June 3rd. Known as one of the most "lopsided" battles in history.

    Union army took another victory in one of the final battles of the civil war. One of the last battles of the Civil War ultimately leading to the Unions victory
