    The Underground Railroad

    Northern abolitionists and free African Americans risked their safety and lives to help enslaved people to escape to their freedom through a loosely organized network. The Underground Railroad was not really underground and doesn't really have train tracks or cars. Slaves were hidden away tell it was dark out, which was when they helped move the slaves closer to their freedom.

    Uncle Tom's Cabin is published
    Written by Harriet Beecher Stowe, in 1852 she wrote Uncle Tom's Cabin. The novel had a huge impact on the Civil War. It changed people's opinions on African Americans and slavery.

    Bleeding Kansas, or in other words, a border war, was based upon being Confederate or Union. Industrial based economy or agricultural based state.     Kansas-Nebraksa Act
    The Kansas-Nebraska Act is about people of those territories choosing if they wish to own slaves for their plantations. The act was made to repeal the Missouri Compromise of 1820 which prohibited slavery in the area.

    Dred Scott Decision
    Dred Scott, a famous enslaved African American, is known for suing for his freedom. It was called Scott vs. Stanford, or The Dred Scott Case. He was unsuccessful in the end.

    The Election of 1860 was a famous election. Not only because Abraham Lincoln became president, but because there was four candidates. The other three were John Bell (constitutional union), John C. Breckinridge (democrat), Stephen A. Douglas (democrat). Lincoln won with the most support in the Western and North territory.

    Secession of the Southern states happened after the election of 1860. The south split from the North do to Abraham Lincoln winning the election. The south created their own capital and government. Which was another great cause of the Civil War
  • Battle at Bull Run

    Battle at Bull Run
    The Battle of Bull Run was in the north surprised people who hoped that the war would end quickly. People were unprepared for the carnage modern warfare could produce. The first Battle of the Bull Run was the first major battle of the Civil War. Even though the Union Force out numbered the Confederates, the experience of the Confederate soldiers proved the differences because the Confederates won this battle.

    Battle of Shiloh

    The Battle of Shiloh horrified both the North and South and damaged Grant's rising reputation. In just two days of fighting, nearly 25,000 Union and Confederate soldiers were killed or wounded.The location of the battle was in Pittsburgh Landing, which is along the bank of the Tennessee River of Tennessee.

    Emancipation Proclamation
    Written by President Abraham Lincoln, The Emancipation Proclamation helped free all slaves in the states that were fighting the union. It did not free all the slaves in the neutral states such as Kentucky and Missouri.

    After the Civil War, the South was pretty beat up. They had to reconstruct. This timespan supposed to help join the south with the Union once again. in the end, there were Black Codes put into place and new amendments.   • Lincoln's Assassination

    Lincoln's Assassination
    On April 14, 1865 Lincoln was shot in the back of the head by actor John Wilkes Booth. Lincoln had decided to relax and attend a comedy called ,Our American Cousin, at a nearby Ford Theater in Washington D.C. Lincoln died the next morning April 15, 1865.
