The Underground Railroad was created to help free enslaved Africans by bringing them to Canada. It was a secret operation that went house to house. -
Compromise of 1850
Helped cause the civil war by dividing the free states(north) and the slave states (south) by drawing a line between the north and south. It also made new states slave free as long as there was a slave state with it. -

Battle of Antietam
The deadliest battle in U.S history to date. Antietam was the first battle to fully use modern war tactics. It was the first battle that was won in the south. Fought in northern Virginia. -
Battle at Vicksburg
Northern general U.S. Grant forced a group of Confederate soldiers in the city of Vicksburg, Mississippi. The siege started in the spring and ended at the end in summer. It was one of the first battles to use a modern navy to destroy the city. https://acwm.org/ -

It made the south free their slaves and gave enslaved Africans the motivation to join the northern army and help free the southern slaves. -

The Union got a victory that allowed 4 million slaves thier freedom. The Black code was passed to control former slaves. Freedmen's Bureau and Civil Rights Bills was passed as well.

At Appomattox 1865 the South surrenders. General Robert E. Lee goes and meets Ulysses S. Grant and ends the meeting in a surrender. -
Lincoln's Assassination
At Ford's Theater in Washington, D.C, John Wilkes Booth shot Lincoln as they were watching the play "Our American Cousin".
