    The battle of the Sabine Pass was another battle were the Union tried to take over a part of Texas. The Confederates kept missing the Unions battle ships with their canons. Later, they evacuated and took as many otheir belongings with them. The Sabien Pass was a river that went between Louisiana and Texas.

    President Licoln was elected as the first republican president. He ran against the democrat Douglas. The democratic party was heavily divided wich caused the loss of the democratic party. He was the 16th president of the U.S.

    Texas was the seventh state to secede from the Union and become a confederate state. South Carolina's decision to secede encouraged Texas to later secede. Then they had the first shot at Fort Sumter. Texas was a state that did not have many slaves but supported slavery.

    When Houston was elected he tried to keep Texas from seceding and stay with the Union. He did not want to secede due to military reasons. He failed to do that and was later kicked out of office. Texas wanted a leader that would support going to war.

    Fort Sumter was the battle that started the Civil War. The Union refuded to surrender. They had not lost any men yet. Then a Governor came and asked them to surrender because they didnt have any recourses and were weak and hungry. In the end the Confederates won and the Union surrendered.

    During the battle of Gaveston the Union took a part of the Galveston area. But, in the end the confederates got it back. The Union created a blockade so that Texas will not get their recourses. The Confederates sent tiny boats off at night to sneak past and get their resources.

    The battle of Gettysburg lasted from July 1st to July 3rd. In the end of the battle 51,000 men were captured, killed or went missing. The winner of the battle was the Confederate side. The Battle of Gettysburg had the most soldiers killed out of all the battles in the Civil War.

    The Red River Campaign started on March 10 to May 22, 1864. This was a series of battles that happened along the Red River in Louisiana. The Red river campaign lasted a month and twelve days. At this point it was becoming clear on who was going to win the war.

    The civil war lasted four years. The war was against the Confederates and the Union. The Confederates supported slavery and were from the South. The Union was against slavery and was from the North. The Northern Union won the Civil war and slavery was now illegal.

    In February 1865 the Union commander at Brazos Island, Col. Theodore reported to his superiors that his base was secure from attack and that with permission he could take Brownsville. The supervisors said no. DUring this battle the Union struggled to stay and win the war. In the end the Confederates won this battle.

    Juneteenth is an old holiday celebrating the end of slavery in the United States. It is celebrated on June 19th. On June 19th the Union soldiers landed at Galveston to give Texas with news that the war had ended and that the enslaved were now free. This was a great day for the enslaved Americans.

    The reconstruction was to bring the south back to normal. President Abraham was in charge. Northerners were tired of Reconstruction efforts and had become less interested in the South. The reconstruction ended on January 10, 1876
