The Missouri Compromise
A compromise saying that no slaves could be above the line of Missouri, but slaves could be below Missouri. This allowed for Maine to be a free state but Missouri to be a slave state. This help divide the USA because this was the line of the Union and the Confederacy. -
Nat Turner's Rebellion
One of the largest slave rebellions in America. They killed every white person they met and eventually had the militia called to help "handle" the slaves. This helped to divide the USA by showing that the south slaves were rebelling and this made Britten step in to liberate the slaves. -
Fugitive Slave Act of 1850
This is part of the Compromise of 1850, it punished anybody that helped the runaway slaves with civil penalties, criminal penalties, and 6-month imprisonment. This helped to divide the USA by making it harder for the slaves to escape and made it easier for the south to keep their slaves. This probably made the North want to end slavery faster. -
Uncle Tom's Cabin
Harriet Beecher was a fictional exploration that made the people realize what happened when a slave was held in capitation. This caused a bigger problem from the North and the South because it brought up the issues that the mastors caused for the slaves while people just sat around and watced. -
Bleeding Kansas
Everyone beats each other up with clubs because the South wants Kansas to become a slave state. South wanted to change the vote this went on five years. -
Abraham Lincoln elected for President
Lincoln was elected president after his anti-slavery campaign scared the south because they would be losing workers which meant losing money -
Fort Sumter
During this time Confederate warships turned back the supply ships to Fort Sumter. This help divide the USA because the Confederates didn't give supply to Fort Sumter which was part of the Union at the time.
