    Missouri Compromise
    This was created to regulate and balance how many states were free states and how many were slaves.The new land Westward was divided into slave and free states. This caused the war because people felt that it made the North seem more aggressive in it's anti-slavery views and contributed to the South resentment.
  • Uncle Tom's Cabin

    Uncle Tom's Cabin
    Harriet written the book because she had witnessed slave trading going on and wanted people to open their eyes and show them what slavery was like.It changed people's perspective and made them chose sides. It lead to war because Abraham greeted Harriet by saying "so you're the little woman who wrote the book that started this great war".
  • Kansas-Nebraska Act

    Kansas-Nebraska Act
    This was created to hopefully solve all of the problems with the Missouri Compromise. As a result NE&KS were split and could chose whether they were slaves or free. This lead to war because kansas with slavery would violate the Missouri Compromise which had kept the union from falling apart for the last thirty-four years. Which led to the Bleeding Kansas.
  • Dred Scott Decision

    Dred Scott Decision
    A slave went to live in a free territory for a period of time with his owner. Then he came back and tried to be called a free man. The judge denied and said he was still a slave because of future events and he would have to make them all free. This led to war because Dred was a slave and walked free and chose to sue his master for his freedom. Every slave thought they were going to walk free just as Dred Scott.

    Abraham Lincoln - Douglas Debate
    This was the election for president and the two had very different views and different sides. As a result of his views Douglas began to lose popularity votes. This led to war because the Southern Democrats were angered by the freeport doctrine which stated that "Slavery could not exist in a community if the local citizens did not pass and enforce laws. That he started losing votes.
  • John Brown Raid

    John Brown Raid
    The plan was to seize the U.S army so that they could then have the slave rebellion. The out come was that they were both caught and executed. This lead to war because John started an armed slave revolt by seizing a United States Arsenal at Harper's Ferry. He's raid was defeated by a detachment of U.S. Marines.
