    The invention of the cotton gin
    Eli Whitney's cotton gin was invented in 1793 in Georgia, but was patented until March 14, 1794, it helped revolutionize the process of seperating cotton from its seed. It became so profitable that it led to greater demands for both land and slave labor.

    Passed by congress on December 22, 1807, the embargo act of 1807 was designed to punish Britain and France, as well as protecting American goods from being seized by other countries. It was a conflict that worked against the North's way of life as the North's bigger cities benefited from international trade which forced the North into benefitting from southern production of agriculture such as cotton.

    The Missouri Compromise was an attempt by congress to help differ the conflict between southern and northern political views and sectional differences. Missouri was admitted as a slave state, but the compromise did not allow slavery above the 36'30 line.
