  • Lincoln is elected president

    republican from Illinois who said at first that they did not want to end slavery but did not want it to spread west. the southern states did not believe him and feared he would end slavery, so they seceded.

  • Confederate States of America is formed

    Formed in hopes to preserve their rights to own slaves.

  • Battle of Fort Sumter

    620,000 people died. Confederacy won this war, the beginning of the civil war.

  • President Lincoln declares a blockade of Southern ports

    Made the blockade in hopes to prevent the trade of goods, supplies, and weapons.

  • First Battle of Bull Run (Manassas)

    3,000 casualties for the union and 1,750 for confederates. Confederates won this battle.
