The Liberator was an abolitionist newspaper created by William Lloyd Garrison and Isaac Knap. The Liberator lasted for 35 years (1861). It also had about 3,000 subscribers and 3/4 of the subscribers were African Americans. -
Compromise of 1850 passed
The Compromise of 1850 was made of laws making California a a free state, creating New Mexico and Utah territories with slavery to be determined by popular sovereignty, making the border for Texas and Mexico ,and ending the slave trade in Washington, D.C., southerners could recover slave fugitives easier. -

Kansas Nebraska Act passed
President Franklin Pierce signed the Kansas Nebraska law into act. The act let settlers decide whether or not slavery would be allowed in a territory. -
Dred Scott case
Dred Scott was an enslaved African American who traveled to free territory and thought he would be free because he was in free territory. But this case went to the Supreme Court and they ruled that he is not free because he is not a citizen and he is technically "property". -
John Browns raid at Harpers Ferry
John Brown was an abolitionist who led a small group to Harpers Ferry and hoped to start an armed slave revolt. Though what they were going for did not succeed this sparked the Civil War in sense and put fear in the south. -

Abe Lincoln was our 16th president and he was a great one. He led the United States through the Civil War and he preserved the Union and helped abolish slavery. -
South Carolina secedes from the union
South Carolina was the first state to secede from the Union after Abraham Lincoln became the President. This was the start of the Confederacy. -

The battle of Fort Sumter was the battle that started the Civil War. When president Buchanan sent supplies and a group of unarmed soldiers was sent there and fired upon is when it began. The battle lasted three days and surprisingly no one died. -

President Lincoln used the Emancipation Proclamation to cripple the south.The Emancipation Proclamation helped prevent the involvement of foreign nations in the Civil War ,Britain and France had considered supporting the Confederacy.The Emancipation Proclamation paved the way for African Americans to fight for their freedom because the proclamation said that "that all persons held as slaves" within the rebellious states "are, and henceforward shall be free.". -

They met 10000 confederate troops who were defending the port Finally General William J. Hardee abandoned the city along with his troops. -

On April 9, 1865 after four years of Civil War, approximately 630,000 deaths and over 1 million casualties, General Robert E. Lee surrendered the Confederate Army of Northern Virginia to Lieutenant General Ulysses Grant. . -
President Abe Lincoln assasinated
On April 14, 1865, John Wilkes Booth shot President Abraham Lincoln at a play at in Washington D.C. The assassination came five days after the Confederates surrendered to the Civil War. -
