The battle of Philippi happened in Philippi Virginia. It is known as the first land battle of the civil war. The war lasted a whopping 20 minutes and there were no fatalities. The town of Philippi had 500 people and had little military experience. One confederate soldier got hit in the leg with a cannon and had to get his leg amputated. -

The battle happened in Nicholas county in western Virginia. The confederate troops slowly closed in on the parts of the laughing gauley river. The battle took many days and not very many people died. On September 10, it was quiet for most of the day. At 7:10 p.m, all the troops exited the field and the battle was over. -

Jackson had 30,000 confederate soldiers and started circling around the others. Lee and Jackson had a very good plan to attack the union. It stunned the union and they were all afraid. The confederates pulled off an easy win for the war.
