The Compromise of 1850 supports Georgia's Platform and included some ideas to handle slavery and California's place as a free state, but this would cause the North to return all runaway slaves. Role of Alexander Stephens
Alexander Stephens did not support secession and said that just because Lincoln was elected that they shouldn't leave and he was basically the "representative" of the idea. It was a paper that Abraham Lincoln signed to free all slaves in confederate states. No slaves were really freed, since they didn't control confederate states.(New Gerogia Encyclopedia) -
Chickamauga
A battle that the confederacy won at north Georgia, even though the south had many casualties and the reason that the North probably won is because the North did not have the greatest leader commanding at that battle. Since this was the second bloodiest civil war battle this was a big military loss for both armies(especially Union since they lost) and the Confederacy pushed north agian.(New Gerogia Encyclopedia) -
Ku Klux Klan
A group that revolves around white supremacy and was feared by many africans(not citizens yet) because of all the terrible things the KKK would do to them and the KKK tried to make blacks give up hope of being free or equal. The KKK affected polls, since they would threaten blacks and order gaurding soldiers to be biased.(New Gerogia Encyclopedia) -
Sharecropping
A system that many freedmen would do since they didn't own any land and it would keep freedmen in debt and poor for the their entire life because they have to give the land owner alot of their crops, therefore; they could never pay their debts off because of other things. This "labor" helped freedmen, land owners and the economy because freedmen were getting paid, land owners got their crops grown and harvested, and the economy improved beause of this relationship.(New Gerogia Encyclopedia)
