The cause of this event is that the most of the south has succeeded from the union and Fort Sumner is on their new territory and they are going to take it. What happened in the event is that the south burned down fort sumner and the effect is that it effected Lincoln to start the war. -
Battle of Bull Run/Mannasas
The cause of the battle is that it is the first battle of the war. And Norths plan is that they would invade Bull Run and then take Richmond and end the war easy. The south's plan was the opposite and they were going to take Washington D.C. The south won the battle and forced the north to retreat. The signifigance of this battle is that both sides new It was going to be a long and hard war. -
Battle of Antiedam
The south wanted to invade the north for the first time to gain confidence for the south. This long one day battle was the bloodiest day in American history and so many people died. The north forced the south to retreat. The effect is that Lincoln wanted to make the emancipation proclamation. -
Emancipation Proclamation
The cause of the Emancipation Proclamation is that the north wanted to boost the north's morale and spread rumors to the south. The emancipation proclamation stated that all slaves in the south were free but not in the union so he would not lose the border states. He spreader rumors and a lot of slaves started not to fight for the union anymore and they disrupted the confederates. The effect of the emancipation proclamation is that their were African American troops in the war. -
Battle of Gettysburg
The cause of the battle is Lee knew that he was going to lose the war so he made a push into the north and take big cities. They met up Gettysburg, PA and fought a long tiring three day battle. The first day the south was able to force the north to retreat but the north made a great fish hook. The next day the south tried to attack the edges of the hook but failed. The third day they attacked the middle and failed. The effect of the war is that it was the last war fought on northern soil. -
Sherman March to the Sea
The cause of this war is that Grant ordered Sherman to wage total war on the south and destroy their ability to fight. Sherman and Grant marched down to the sea and destroyed everything in their way that helped the confederacy. The effect is that the south was destroyed and they soon were going to have to surrender. -
Lee's Surrender at Appomattox Courthouse
The cause of the surrender is that Lee got trapped by the north in Richmond and could do nothing because they did not have much supplies or troops. So, at Appomattox Court House he surrendered and the south had finally lost the war. The effects of this was that Lincoln is reelected and the war is over but racism in the south is still very severe but Slavery has ended!
