    Slavery (cause)

    Slavery was basically unpaid labor and harsh treatment of Africans in the south. The North was known for trying their best to abolish slavery and get slaves to freedom, the North interfering was one of the biggest causes for the war. (New GA encyclopedia)
  • The compromise of 1850

    A compromise breaking the balance of states, but its stated that it would be supported if was proved effective. A large part of this was the fugitive slave act, which the North refused to enforce, causing multiple problems. (usahistory.org)
  • Battle of Gettysburg

    Known as the bloodiest battle overall, the union was way more skilled (and had way more fighters) than the South, making it a very harsh fight. This battle was the largest and worst battle of the civil war and the worst fought in North America. (historynet.com)
  • Sherman's March to Sea

    This was William T. Sherman's efforts to capture Atlanta by a March of major destruction through Georgia. This was the most destructive campaign during the civil war, and caused a lot of damage to not only the state but to the industry as well. (New GA encyclopedia)
  • Ku Klux Klan (KKK)

    A large group of people that disguised themselves at night and went to harm and murder multiple southern African Americans. They were also known for targeting Republican voters (no matter race), it was an organization that thrived on violence. (New GA encyclopedia)

    Sharecropping

    Former slaves that got money, seeds, food, shelter etc. form Southern whites, this resulted in African Americans being in A LOT of debt. This was good for both whites and blacks (not including the debt part) because blacks got their necessities for survival, and whites got 1/2 of the crops grown. (New GA encyclopedia)
