It was a war with Mexico and the US over land. When we won we got more land but the question of slavery came up and how we would decide if there would be slavery in the new states. -
California Gold Rush
People started moving to California to get rich. It eventually got so populated it was ready to become a state. When that started going around the question of slavery came up once again. -
Compromise of 1850
The Compromise of 1850 was the way they dealt with the question of slavery in the incoming states. It said that the people would decide through popular sovereignty. The southerners favored this because there were more of them out west where the new states were. -
Bleeding Kansas
This was when the anti slavery people and the pro slavery people started fighting. -
Civil War
This was the result of all the events. It was a fight between the people of the United States.
