Mr. Abraham Lincoln was from the Northern States and he was one of the men who wanted to put an end towards slavery. Due to that, many people from the southern states did not want him to be their President, due to the fact that he could make laws that would affect them. -
South Carolina Secedes
South Carolina became the first state to secede from the United States, and because of their actions many other states would also secede or leave from the United States. -
The Confederation is formed.
All the Southern states who have seceded, have now formed their own 'country' which is known as The Confederate States of America, and Jefferson Davis is their President. -

The climax of the Battle of Gettysburg occurs at Cemetery Ridge, where annihilation of Pickett’s brigade in what came to be known as "Pickett’s Charge" results in the Confederate retreat back to Virginia.
