    13th Amendment
    Abolished slavery in the United States and or involuntary acts.
  • The 14th Amendment

    The 14th Amendment
    Addresses citizenship rights and equal protection of the laws.
  • The 15th Amendment

    The 15th Amendment
    Gave African Americans the right to vote.
  • Literacy Tests

    Literacy Tests
    This was a test that was used to test how well ome people could read and write. This test would at times determine whether you could vote or not. These tests in turn were used against african americans in order keep them from voting since they couldnt read and write due to the jim crow south.
  • Plessy v. Ferguson

    Plessy v. Ferguson
    This was a 7-1 vote in congress deciding toward the affirmative action of stopping discrimination in public locations or accommodations. This act helped to end the segregation of blacks and whites in public areas. Even with public water fountains.
  • 19th Amendment

    19th Amendment
    All women were given the right to vote after not being equal to men. They refer to the time period of women not having the right to vote as suffrage.
  • Korematsu v. United States

    Korematsu v. United States
    During world war 2 the president of the united states issued an executive order to put the japanese into camps until the end of the war. Causing millions of Japanese to lose their jobs. This suit issued that all japanese should get reparations for all the money theyve lost.
  • Brown v. Board of Education

    Brown v. Board of Education
    This case determined whether to integrate schools or not; black children had been denied schooling with whites due to segregation laws. This case determined that all schools must be integrated.
  • Montgomery Bus Boycott

    Montgomery Bus Boycott
    Starting after the Rosa parks arrest for refusing to give up her seat to a white man on the bus Martin Luther King began a peaceful protest for a year that resulted in the freedom of blacks to sit where they wanted. This boycott lasted a year and rendered many buses useless due to the fact that the main source of money was gone. Ths lead to bus organizations letting african americans to sit any where they wanted on the buses equally.
  • Affirmative Action

    Affirmative Action
    This act was used to promote against non discrimination. It was signed by John F. Kennedy and an executive order to order the work place to hire based off of non discrimatory terms.
  • 24th Amendment

    24th Amendment
    Abolition of the poll tax.
  • Civil Rights Act of 1964

    Civil Rights Act of 1964
    This outlawed discrimination in the work place, schools, or during even voting registration. The enforced laws were not very strong at first and were hardly obeyed by many states. This Act provided equal protection under the laws of the 14th amendment.
  • Voting Rights Act of 1965

    Voting Rights Act of 1965
    This act is a piece of federal legislation that prohibits racial discrimination in voting. This fought against the discrimination in voting and it was signed by president Lyndon B. Johnson. Martin Luther King Jr. helped in creating this bill with his protests.

    A poll taxes is a tax or bill people have to pay in order to vote in the united states. Many protested against this and now the poll taxes have been revoked.

    Robert F. Kennedy Speech in Indianapols upon Death of MLK
    Shortly after hearing about Martin Luther King Jr.'s death Robert F. Kennedy announced his death in indianapolis. He showed remorse and told the audience how the world has faced a loss and will forever regret the desicions that the whites have made aganst the blacks. Robert F. Kennedy said very little words but his words hit home in the crowd of over a thousand. This is seen as one of his greatest speeches.
  • Regents of the University of California v. Bakke

    Regents of the University of California v. Bakke
    A white man had applied for admission into University of California Medical School at Davis but was denied while minorities who had lower test scores recieved admission. He concluded that they denied him based off of race.
  • Equal Rights Amendment

    Equal Rights Amendment
    This was proposed by Alice Paul and was passed through the United states congress and recieved a neccessary vote of 35 to 38 and recieved ratification.
  • Bowers v. Hardwick

    Bowers v. Hardwick
    A police officer caught a man enaging in sodomy after he had been chared recently with another sodomy charge. He took this case to court and found that the statute that Georgia where they found the statute unconstitutional.
  • Sweatt v. Painter

    Sweatt v. Painter
    Sweatt was reject from the University of Texas Law school based off of the color of his skin. He was rejected and unable to attend so he asked the court to order his admission to the law school; the university tried to apply seperate but equal laws to the facilities.
  • Americans With Disabilities Act

    This act prohibits discrimination based off of disabilities; it nearly has the same properties as the Civil Rights Act. The disability doesnt have to be permanent in order to be determined a disability.
  • Lawrence v. Texas

    Lawrence v. Texas
    Police responding to a gun report entered into Lawrences home and found him engaging in sexual acts with another man. He was arrested a filed a suite. He later took this to the supreme court where they found it unconstitutional for him to be arrested for sodomy.
  • Fisher v. Texas

    Fisher v. Texas
    A woman named Abigail Fisher filed for an undergraduate admission to the university of Texas. She was not one of the top ten percent in her class and to that effect she was denied acceptance. She filed a suit againt the University and other related defendants and the supreme court sided with the University of Texas due to the fact that she did not qualify for the University of Texas.

    Indiana Gay Marraige Court Battle
    Indiana has found that the banning of gay marriage goes against the freedoms and rights that are God given rights.
  • Jim Crow

    Jim Crow
    Segregation of African Americans in the south which lead to a multitude of riots and protests. This is the time period where revolutionary leaders such as Martin Luther King Jr., Malcom X, and Ghandi preached and lead somewhat peaceful protests.
  • Reed v. Reed

    Reed v. Reed
    This case had a basis of sexual discrimination between women and men. This case showed that men were more preferred than men and that the issue of a gender gap was prominent. This case was the first case to describe descrimination as a violation of the 14th amendment.
