scott v sanford
the slave, scott, was a slave taken by his master to a free state. he argued saying that since he was now in a free state, being a slave was illegal. court ruled that any slave taken to a free state by their master is a slave. they also said that black people were basically below the whites and had different rights. -
civil rights act
stated that funding would be cut off for schools/roads/bridges/etc. that refused to integrate schools. -
voting rights act
enforces the 15th amendment by dismantling all voting restrictions. if you are a state that has a history of voting laws that discriminate, then going forward, if you wanna pass new voting laws, you must get pre-approval from the federal govt.
